The ISJ Board of Associates

The ISJ Board of Associates

ISJ intends to create a Board of Associates. It therefore accepts Board of Associates members, according to Conditions. For more information, click here.

Purpose of the Board of Associates

Associate positions are available for experts like professors, scholars, and practitioners, together with PhDs and post-graduate students. These can be accessed via the online system of the International Studies Journal (ISJ) in Tehran.

The relationship between ISJ and the associates is one of mutual benefit. Their profiles are featured on the ISJ’s website, in a designated “Board of Associates” member category. The articles submitted by associate members will be guaranteed publication immediately following the acceptance of these. Note that successful authors who request the printed version of ISJ in which their article is published have to pay 100 euros for 4 copies plus postage and packing costs. Otherwise they are eligible for a 50 percent discount. Furthermore, their ISJ subscription is offered at 20 percent discount. To secure their stakeholder participation, associates are also welcome to present their ideas for the policy making of ISJ.

Associates will be selected from the following areas and disciplines: International Law, International Relations, Political Science, Economic, History, and Social Sciences. Preference will be given to those who are well known in their country of residence and around the world. Applicants must have professional proficiency in English and be familiar with French.

Term Durations

Associates may serve between one year and up to a five-year term. At the end of their term, the profiles of the respective associates will be removed from the website unless they choose to renew or extend their membership period.

There is no expectation of permanent or temporary employment on behalf of members of the Board of Associates.

A good character is a requirement, though. E.g., lack of respect for the academic rules of ISJ will lead to termination and subsequent disqualification from the Board of Associates.

Application Procedure

Applicants should submit the following documents by June 10:

Letter of application

Curriculum vitae/resume

Two letters of recommendation

Payment of 85 Euros (to be paid after each year’s admission)

Note: the deadline for renewals and extensions is also June 10.

A . From the legal perspective:

Iran has stopped a British ship in violation of maritime rules in the Persian Gulf. Britain has seized Iranian oil tanker at the request of the United States in Gibraltar. The EU has ordered sanctions on purchasing oil originated Syria, not selling oil to it. Iran is not a member of the European Union and is free to export its oil to any country which is not sanctioned by the UN Security Council. According to international law and the law of seas, Iranian ship must be released immediately. There is no reason for freeing the British ship which has violated maritime rules in Persian Gulf.

B. From the political perspective:

By the end of the 19th century, Britain was the dominant maritime power of the world. The country still remains one of the most important maritime powers in international community. Britain seizure of an Iranian ship in Gibraltar which has a strategic ally named the United States is a small victory in the above-mentioned system.

But Iran has never been a maritime power. The seizure of a British ship in the Persian Gulf by Revolutionary Guard naval forces is a great loss for Britain and its strategic ally, America and the newly team called "B". Iran's national sovereignty over its territorial waters is an undeniable fact. Harmless crossing of non-hostile ships from the Strait of Hormuz is seriously monitored by Iran.
